JEE Advanced Paper: Ranging from Moderate to Difficult Level
The JEE Advanced examination, conducted by the NTA, was held on Sunday across two shifts.
In the first shift, the paper for each subject comprised four questions with a single correct option, four questions with one or more correct options, four numerical-type questions, and four 'Match the Column' questions. Thus, a total of 16 questions were asked from each subject, amounting to 48 questions in all. In the first paper, the difficulty level of questions across all three subjects—Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics—was moderate.
In the second shift, the paper for each subject included four questions with a single correct option, five questions with one or more correct options, and five numerical-type questions; additionally, two paragraph-based questions were asked, each containing two sub-questions. Consequently, a total of 18 questions were asked from each subject in the second paper, bringing the grand total to 54 questions.
In the second paper, the difficulty level of the Physics questions was high (difficult), whereas the questions in Chemistry and Mathematics remained at a moderate level. Each question paper carried a weightage of 180 marks, making the combined total for both papers 360 marks.
Overall, the difficulty level of both question papers ranged from moderate to difficult. Students found that calculations consumed a significant amount of time in both papers.
Compared to previous years, a notable change in the pattern this time was observed in the negative marking scheme for questions with multiple correct options: previously, the penalty was minus 2 marks, whereas this year it has been reduced to minus 1 mark. Furthermore, there was no negative marking for numerical-type questions. In the second paper, 50 percent of the questions were of the numerical type.
